Feet are probably the most neglected part of your body that demand the most (or a lot more) attention. Generally speaking, awareness is lacking when it comes to the correct love and care practices for the feet and one ends up falling for useless myths. If you are one of those then put your worthless worries to rest. We are here to burst some popular feet and footwear myths.
- Sunscreen on Feet?
Do you know that the skin on your feet is prone to many forms of skin cancer? It might sound absurd but your feet need sunscreen too. If you are out in sun, at least apply sunscreen every two to three hours without fail. Dermatologists say come hail, snow or sunshine, wear sunscreen!
- Feet issues- Nowhere to go!
Corns, verrucas, athletes foot, calluses, smelly feet and gout.. heard these terms before? These are some very common foot problems. You might even have it but you don’t know it. However, there is someone at your rescue, a podiatrist or ‘foot doctor’. Yes, they do exist! A Podiatrist diagnoses disorders related to foot, ankle and lower extremity. So next time, when you feel skin hardening on your sole or needle-pricking pain or sudden swelling around the toe, consult a podiatrist near you.
- Bunions- say what now?!
Many are unaware about bunions- a frequently found problem. Bunion is a bony hump that develops on the joint at the base of big toe. Footwear may or may not be the reason for bunion development. Inheritance of faulty foot structure, feet related injuries or deformity at birth are a few factors responsible for bunions. Ill fitting shoes might worsen your situation, so choose flat, low-heeled footwear that are wide and soft. You can even try your hands on bunion pads, orthotics and bunion correctors as well.
- Walk barefoot, it’s good for your feet
If you are at a farm at the break of dawn, the grass with morning dew beckons for a stroll without shoes. But try that at swimming pool changing area and say hello to fungal or viral infections! To make that pedicure last longer, don’t part away from flip flops or sliders when at home.
- Toenails- leave no tails
Many of us clip the toe-nails short and straight. The best practice is to trim toenails along the natural line and bid farewell to ingrown nails. In order to soften toenails, you can use toenail softening cream, soak feet in foot spa machine, apply tea tree oil or white vinegar.
Hopefully, now you won’t fall in the trap for such myths. Let us know if you are aware of more myths. Let’s burst some more bubbles together!
“Women are way too sensitive to start a Business or cope up with failure” – Patriarchy
Well, certainly anyone would need guts to say this to Vandana Luthra, Sairee Chahal, Anita Dongre, Falguni Nayar, ..you get the gist.
Ten years back, the very idea of Women starting their startup might seem quite improbable. However, the scenario has changed dramatically. Gone are the days, when business was solely meant for the men. With the new wave, women are toppling the patriarchy and embracing new roles. It won’t be inaccurate to say that, “Women entrepreneurship is the golden phase of the Startup Culture.”
To the badass ladies out there, here’s a small tribute from Kanabis to celebrate your hidden strength.
Do we need to say more? Women are born multitaskers. They don’t shy away from managing multiple roles together. At times, it might seem overwhelming but they balance everything like a pro. From running a company to running to fetch the groceries, you say it, it will be done.
Did I just say RISK?
The risk is crucial for any business, especially in the initial stage. However, calculated risk with a proper assessment of danger is the best strategy. Several studies have shown that women are way better-calculated risk takers compared to their counter parts. Besides, they tend to be more ambitious. Yasss….!
Overconfidence, What’s that?
Despite higher growth in business, women still feel they are just doing average. No, it’s not underconfidence. Everything comes down to the perception of success. Women tend to take a long-term view considering into account steady growth and not fast growth with a quick exit.
Challenges make us stronger!
Women tend to face much more challenges than men. Starting from the wage gap issues, struggling to build a network or coping up with the status quo. But they know that obstacles don’t understand gender. The good news is that they overcome any hurdle like a true warrior.
Negotiation is in our Blood
Women are savvy negotiators. They try to make everyone win in the deal. They are open to creativity and avoid wrong decision just to achieve a shiny goal.
So, ladies, never let anyone undermine your abilities. You are a born leader. Follow your passion and turn deaf ears to any not-so-useful advice. Let your inner badass rule the world!
After the scorching summer days, we are certain you must be enjoying the early and pleasant arrival of the monsoons. There is something special about the rains. Sipping a nicely brewed coffee, reading a good book, or enjoying the mangoes with the pitter patter in the backdrop is a indeed a perfect setting.
However, it brings with it mess, humidity (read bad hair days!). Not to forget the damage caused to your feet. After all, a mere glance at feet is enough to judge a person. And, one wants it to be the best. Besides, getting wet in the rain may cause some serious fungal or bacterial infection. Did we just get you worried? Relax! We do understand that avoiding getting wet in the rain is not always probable. To put your worries to rest, we are going to give you a quick 2 minutes handy guide to take care of your delicate feet this season.
- Keep Feet Clean And Dry
You need to assure that you dry your feet as soon as you get home drenched. Just dip your feet in lukewarm water for 10 minutes and add Dettol in it. Once done, pat your feet dry with a towel. You can apply some talcum powder to dry too. Moreover, keep your toe-nails short. Many times, dust gets accumulated in the nails leading to bacterial infection. Trust us, these healthy habits go a long way!
- Scrub and Moisturize
Now, let’s move on to something more fundamental and well-known. After cleaning your feet, you can use a scrubber to remove the old dead cells. You can then apply moisturizer to the cracked areas which help in forming new cells. Scrub and moisturize, seems simple?
- Footwear Time!
Do we need to tell you the importance of wearing the right footwear? *winks*
Try not to wear closed footwear at all. It’s the best to step out in flip-flops or open toe flats. Well, that’s not the end. After coming back, do wash the rain-soaked footwear in antibacterial water. Ah! We understand that you are tired but come on, your feet are special just like you!
- Foot Mask
Yes, you heard it right. Just like your face, your feet need a mask too. And yeah, we will ensure that it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. The key ingredients are right there in your kitchen- Lavender Oil, Multani Mitti, Neem, Turmeric. Make a paste and apply it to your feet keeping for at least half an hour. Pat dry with a towel and massage with olive oil. The end product is beautiful soft feet.
Sounds easy breezy? Indeed, it is. As long as you take care of your feet properly, you are free to enjoy this romantic season of happiness. Do follow these tips and let us know if they helped you in any way.
In our last post we unleashed some dark truths about how leather is made. Continuing that conversation, we bring to you the other side of that same coin. Be warned, it’s not a pretty read but such is reality.
The slaughterhouses are not just issues for animal lovers and environmentalists; they have also become a bane for the locals.Laxity for rules has led to the development of poor sanitary conditions in the slaughterhouses as well as the areas around them. Even after employing special sanitary workers, the houses are in a state of utter disgust.
Due to customary practices, animals are skinned on the floor, where there is a high probability of contaminating the meat. Also, the hides and the hoofs are not immediately disposed after their removal. Apart from these, one can also find dung and blood just lying around. As a result, there is a horrible stench emanating from these places. This makes it impossible for the locals to walk around without covering their noses.
Another major environmental concern is the disposal of waste water. Water from slaughter houses is full of pollutants that goes straight through the normal drainage system albeit there are government norms prohibiting such a practice. As a result, drains always smell and are filled with filth. This often chokes them up and jeopardizes the water system of the whole area. Clogged and dirty drains also provide a breeding ground for diseases.
Still thinking about that leather tote bag or those heels or suede loafers ? We can see heads shaking. At Kanabis, we are doing our bit by voicing our support for not just the animals but also for the people, our kin, suffering because of these. Are you doing yours?
Love. Peace. Vegan.

A voice against Animal Slaughter
Leather is a fashion statement for many of us, but are we really aware about the harsh and dark realities that exist before it reaches us, in the form of a new pair of shoes, bag or belt? A large number cows, sheep, goats are tortured in unimaginable conditions and killed everyday, just for their skin, just for fashion.
A majority of them are slaughtered in developing countries like India, because the animal welfare laws here are just not- enforced. They are treated horribly, kept in deplorable conditions and exploited to their limit. In India, a shocking PETA investigation found that it is a common practice- for slaughterhouse workers to break the tails of cows and rub chili peppers and tobacco in their eyes, so that they can walk, even in an exhausted state, often to their final doom.
The irony is that the treatment of cows is amongst the cruelest right here in India; the same India that elevates the cow to the holiest of statuses. Sad, but true.
Sadly, the horror story, doesn’t end here. Since killing healthy young cattle is illegal in India, many slaughterhouses resort to deliberately cripple and maim them. These poor calves are not given food; their legs are broken; their spirits shattered. They are intentionally exposed to poison and other harmful substances to reduce their ability to survive. All so that they become the shiny new thing in our wardrobes.
The story of illegal slaughterhouses has become a political hot potato. The number of these hidden killing booths and their shocking & intensely inhumane practices are alarming the country. In addition by being part of the illegal trade, the black money generated is astronomical, which is further used to fund the greed and corruption in our society.
Each pair of leather shoes is often associated with a sad story of a poor animal who had no choice. But there is a silver lining, because we can choose for ourselves. We have a choice – and we can choose the humane way that acknowledges our part in this world. And our little choices can have big impacts.
And while we at Kanabis are all about the style and latest trends, what motivates us the most is that we are part of this choice. Slip into our Kanabis shoes and help make fashion a little more ethical with us 🙂
Don’t we often find ourselves drooling over a beautiful pair of heels but our feet secretly cringe with the fear of pain, sweat, corns and worst of all injury from a fall? Yikes!
Sweat not, we have some amazing heels hacks which are going to make your experience an amazing one
1. TAPE YOUR FINGERS
If you have broad feet and pumps or peep-toes cause you pain, just tape your third and fourth finger together using a nude medical tape and you are bound to see the difference. (Technical trivia- taping them together reduces the strain on the nerve that is between those two fingers)
2. MAKE YOUR FEET SWEAT-PROOF
Feet sweating causes bad odor and ankle straps start slipping- double whammy! For maintaining the odor the simplest hack is your very own sanitizer, just put it on the soles of your feet and feel fresh as mist all day long!
3. TEA-BAGS: THE SAVIOUR
Who would have thought that used tea bags could also come handy? Just dry your used tea bags and put it in your heels overnight to kill the odor. You and your friend’s nose can thank us later!
4. STRETCH YOUR HEELS
Have wide feet and have to literally stuff them into those beloved heels? Did you know that your blow dryer is truly versatile? Just wear thick woolen socks in your tight pumps. Aim your blow dryer at your problem areas. Flex while you stretch and see the miracle!
5. FREEZE YOUR HEELS
Heels in your freezer may not float everyone’s boat but desperate times call for desperate measures?! Just fill two bags halfway with lukewarm water and seal it well. Put in your heels and freeze overnight. Remove them gently from your shoes next morning and keep it at room temperature for just an hour. Job done!
Last but the not the least, buy a comfortable pair that gives you ample cushion, has a durable anti-skid sole and most importantly fits you well. If the toes are curling, heel is hurting, pinkie finger is getting squished, heels are wobbly- ditch it. Stay comfy, stay chic -try a pair of Kanabis wedges and enjoy the new high over heels!
As my internship draws to a close and I reflect back on all I have learned, I realize what an excellent experience this has been. I gathered much knowledge in the classroom, but a hands-on approach has been invaluable.
I interned with Kanabis from Jan-April and the experience has been incredible. From e-commerce to marketing to customer service I’ve learnt it all. I got to learn a lot about the footwear industry and how a start-up works. Eventually I wish to start my own business and I am sure that this experience would definitely help me in the future.
The people at Kanabis were wonderful. My Boss/Mentor is one of the sweetest people I know. I admire her love and enthusiasm towards her work. The other employees were also very kind and helpful. Even though I was just an intern, my opinions on a particular matter were considered which made me feel more involved.
The whole experience at Kanabis has been delightful, not to forget the free pair of Kanabis is cherry on the cake!
Thank you Team K for the amazing experience and I wish you all the very best for the new collection and many more to come in future!

As a child I remember I would walk out in the newly bought pair from the store and get my old pair packed. You did that too, (or still do) right? Did I really care about the shoe box? Meh…It took starting and running a shoe business to learn some of life’s precious lessons!
1. Beauties need to be boxed- Always Always Always keep the shoes back in boxes. They are happy when they are home ☺
2. Shoe stuffings & holder sticks, the best friends- keep those to retain the shape of the upper.
3. Dust it off – at the end of the day wipe all the dry dirt off from your shoes. Just dusting it off avoids the dust to settle and find a permanent home.
4. Time for some TLC- when you are travelling, if boxes are too big, carry shoes in shoe bags- lay them in opposite direction to avoid the disappointment of seeing a bump or a break.
After a point, they might need a wash or a clean, check out our next blog post to get the low-down on that. Stay tuned!
